"English for Universities" project: sharing the experience

On December, 16 the Department of Foreign Languages hosted the event that gathered the participants of the "English for Universities" project. The purpose of the meeting was to share knowledge and skills acquired during the trainings conducted by British experts in Kyiv and Lviv (November-December, 2015) and to develop a "road map" on how to disseminate the project results.

 

40 faculty members from the National Mining University and our guests from the Academy of Customs discussed the presentations made by the project participants. The talks were devoted to methods and techniques of effective lecturing, problems of teaching English for Academic Purposes and English for Specific Purposes.

 

The result of discussion was an action plan submitted to vice-chancellor's office. It was approved as a 'roadmap' on how to implement innovations and improve teaching English and teaching in English at the National Mining University.

The educators agreed on the necessity of close cooperation between teachers of English and subject teachers who deliver their lectures in English.

The importance and quality of materials and the level of communication with the audience during presentations were highly appreciated by the visitors of the event.

One of the participants of this meeting said: 

During presentations I had a feeling of the British consultants' 'presence in the presentations of the National Mining University participants of TD Courses who openly shared the innovative approaches to EAP/ESP teaching and learning based on the deep theoretical background that always differs British educators and who described the best practices they had discovered through the courses. '
